Jo Beth Grigsby has been named principal at East View Elementary School. The announcement was made at 2:30 p.m. today in the EVES Media Center. She will begin her new role July 1. A reception to welcome her to her new role will be held at a later date.
Grigsby has been with Daviess County Public Schools since 2007. She started her educational career with East View Elementary School as a classroom teacher. Over the next 13 years, she taught various grade levels and subject areas. While in the classroom she was responsible for the academic and social – emotional well- being of her students. As a teacher leader she helped transform East View Elementary School into a Professional Learning Community and reach high academic standards. In 2020, Grigsby took on a new role at East View Elementary as the Gap Coordinator. In this role she created a professional development action plan with certified staff due to COVID-19 academic gaps and 9 weeks of home learning. She helped with 3rd-5th grade reading and math intervention and enrichment through in-person and online learning, along with daily technology support for families, staff, and students.
Grigsby is currently serving as assistant principal at Audubon Elementary School, a position she has held for the last three years. In this role, she has supervised the school’s teaching and learning. She worked to maintain an effective learning climate in the school, including evaluating and supervising the instructional processes, as well as overseeing the implementation of school-wide curriculums. Other responsibilities have included establishing guidelines for proper student conduct through the Positive Behavior Intervention System; planning, organizing, and implementing school activities; and implementing and supervising special education programs. Grigsby has taken an active role in new teacher induction and development, completing and volunteering with the district Future Leaders Academy, helping lead the district MTSS academy, and serving on a variety of school and district level committees.
Grigsby graduated from University of the Cumberlands in 2021 with her Principal degree in Educational Leadership, and Oakland City University in 2009 with a Master of Arts in Education. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Western Kentucky University in 2006.
Grigsby said the following about her selection as the new instructional leader at EVES, “East View has and always will hold a special place in my heart. My roots are deep here. It was my home for 14 years. East View will be a school where the families, staff, and students thrive in a nurturing and loving environment.”
Grigsby said her priorities and background support strong leadership in areas of positive relationships, communication, and academic excellence. “As a leader of the “Shining Suns”, my greatest blessing is to serve the community of East View by striving to motivate and empower others while building trusting, respectful relationships. I am committed to ensuring that all children and adults have the ability to learn and grow, creating momentum to reach high levels of excellence.”
DCPS assistant superintendent for human services Dr. Amy Shutt said, “The DCPS principal selection process provides multiple ways for all school stakeholders to have a voice, and to provide the superintendent with different perspectives of what is needed for a successful school. The East View selection process was completed with integrity and the final decision was made from a very strong group of applicants. JoBeth Grigsby was chosen at the end of a thorough process that focused on seeking a leader to maintain and build upon the culture and instructional success of East View Elementary School. The interview committee provided input to Superintendent Robbins with a goal of finding the best leader to support teachers and staff, and someone to work collaboratively with families to build upon the traditional excellence at East View. Mrs. Grigsby is a leader who has deep roots at East View. I have confidence that she will lead them on a path where the staff and students will reach high academic achievement. She will facilitate the growth of an environment where every teacher can grow professionally and every student can reach their potential. As a Future Leaders Academy alumni, Mrs. Grigsby has demonstrated great leadership skills for many years and it is an exciting time to see her take steps on this new journey in the principal role. She will be a great addition to the elementary principal group, where she already has a great network of professionals. Jo Beth brings a strong instructional work ethic, a love for East View, and a passion for educating the whole child. She has a heart for East View students and staff. I expect to see great things in the upcoming years. JoBeth will be an amazing leader for East View.”
