BMS parents and guardians,

It’s hard to believe that we have only one week until Spring Break!  But this week includes four important learning days for our students so continue to remind your students that Spring Break begins on March 29th and not a day before!  Attendance matters!

We had a great week last week.  On Tuesday our KUNA (Kentucky United Nations Assembly) representatives returned from the KUNA competition in Louisville.  Their chosen countries were Haiti and Slovenia.  Karyn Goatee, Eh Skiter, Dylan Rhodes, and Emmie Bethel did a great job presenting their resolution in front of hundreds of people, and Tommy Rager, Aaron Goldsberry, and Kinslee Goodman did a great job working with dozens of students from other schools to solve world problems. Akira Tanner, Jessica Trejo, Elias Cook, Jaliyah Jenkins, Kilee Tanner, and Payton Hathorn also did a great job of participating in every aspect of the conference, as well as preparing for it. Eh Skiter was recognized as an outstanding ambassador, and Burns Middle School was awarded the best new delegation at KUNA. We are so proud of how they represented the Foxes’ Den!

We also celebrated the performing arts this week at the DCPS Arts Festival.  Our band, orchestra, and chorus all performed at the Bluegrass Museum this week.  On Friday we celebrated Agriculture Day where our Unified Arts teachers networked with local farmers to showcase farm equipment, farm responsibilities, farm safety, and even some farm animals! On Saturday our chorus sang the national anthem at The Evansville Thunderbolts hockey game.

This week we begin our 5th grade visits from our feeder elementary schools.  We can’t wait to meet our future foxes!

There will not be a newsletter for next week, so this will serve as a reminder of the events for April 8-12.  It will be a busy week.  We will celebrate the Eclipse on the day we return on April 8, on April 9 we will have a school-wide KSA (Kentucky State Assessment) scrimmage test to help our students prepare for the structure of the testing window, and on April 10 some of our eighth-grade students will be taking the NAEP test (National Assessment of Educational Progress).

Be sure to keep up with our Talking Points messages for the important details of the next several weeks.  Have a fantastic and well-deserved Spring Break!
