Parents and Guardians,
It’s been a busy week in the Foxes’ Den! We celebrated Pi Day with Pie-in-the-face for teachers as part of this cycle's Fox Card Reward. We sent students to see Alladin at the RiverPark Center on Thursday. On Friday, we celebrated the Reality Fair with our 8th-grade students, where students engaged in real-life budgeting and independent living decision-making skills. We are so grateful for all of our community partners who helped to make this happen.
Our Academic Team returned from the state competition earlier this week. Jaleece Clayton finished in first place for the Scenario Performance and earned a bid to Internationals in June. Foster Dalton earned second place in Scenario Performance. The Future Problem Solving team came in seventh in the state! Amazing job! They also were pretty excited about getting their picture with Governor Andy Beshear when they received their trophy.
Burns Middle School has revived its KUNA program this year. The Kentucky United Nations Assembly (KUNA) is a 3-day, experiential-learning conference in which students participate directly in simulated international diplomacy. KUNA offers students the opportunity to experience the richness of cultures from around the world, develop empathy, and hone their critical thinking skills while engaging with a wide variety of perspectives and global issues. Good luck to our students who are engaging in this exciting learning opportunity this weekend and into Monday.
Our seventh and eighth-grade band will participate in their state festival on March 26th in Madisonville, KY at 7:30 pm. If you can’t make a trip to Madisonville, the band is also
performing at the Bluegrass Museum for the DCPS Arts Festival on Tuesday, March 19th on the main stage at 6:30 pm. These kids have done a great job preparing for this festival and will make Burns proud. Come out and show your support!
It is hard to believe that we also started our final nine-week academic quarter this week. The sun in shining and Spring Break is nearing, but these next two weeks are also crucial as we cement this year's learning in preparation for Spring testing. We have expanded ESS again to Monday through Thursday mornings and afternoons. Now is a great time to remind your student how important it is to finish the last nine weeks with a strong academic performance.
Have a great week!
