Parents and Guardians,
The sun has finally come out and the hint of Spring brings anticipation of so many exciting things. Last week our 7th grade boys basketball team finished up its season with a close loss to Owensboro in the district semi-finals. Our 6th-grade boys' basketball team also competed at the state tournament this past weekend. Our girls' basketball team finished its season with the district tournament this past weekend. Our cheerleaders are leaving this week to compete in the national competition in Florida. And our academic team competes again this week. Good luck!
February is kindness month in Daviess County Public Schools. We spend this month celebrating acts of kindness, educating students on the effects of kindness, and ways to show kindness across our school and our community. Wednesdays will be “Be Kind” days–so if your student has a shirt or sweatshirt with a kindness theme, that is a great day to wear them. Also, ask your students about the kindness challenge they have been given in their Den Time classes.
January and February can be challenging months as cold wet weather keeps us all inside, but in the world of middle school, we also begin to see our students show both academic and social growth. I love working with middle school students because they change so much in the three short years they are with us. Our goal for our students is that while they are at BMS they learn to be kind, responsible, and respectful as they learn to advocate for themselves and create friendships that help them grow into contributing members of our community.
We are halfway through our third quarter of the year. Take time to have a conversation with your students about thier classes. Log in to the parent portal and check thier grades. We have students look at thier grades every Friday, but parent and guardian support goes a long way in reminding them of the importance of following through with thier tasks.
Mark your calendars for Monday, March 4 for our Family Fun and Literacy Night. We will have guest speakers, the Book Fair, and dinner!
For BUS RIDERS
Daviess County Public Schools Transportation Department will be using a new parent app, Stopfinder, for student bus schedules and transportation communication. Stopfinder is the easy-to-use, all-in-one app that allows you to have the most accurate information about your student’s bus schedule at any time from anywhere.
The primary email address that is currently on file with the district will be used for Stopfinder setup.
Parents can update their email in Infinite Campus in their parent portal on their own or they can contact their school’s front office to make changes to primary email addresses. To access your Parent Portal in IC from the Menu click “More” then Family Information. Be sure to click update to ensure changes are saved. Updates and changes need to be made before February 7, 2024.
Stopfinder can be downloaded for free from the App Store or Google Play. Stopfinder will require an invite and registration through the district before accessing your student’s transportation schedule.
Please watch for a Stopfinder invitation, which will be sent to your primary email address, beginning 02/14/2024. Please contact the DCPS Transportation Department with any questions at 270-852-7080.
Have a great week!
