BMS Parents and Guardians,
Happy Martin Luther King Day and the first snow of the season! I delayed the sending of this weekly newsletter in anticipation of this unusual week. We will not be in the school building tomorrow but will be observing our first DCPS@home day. Students are prepared for this. Teachers reviewed the class schedule and how to get on Google Meet MANY times last week.
Students need to log on to their first class Google Meet at 9:00 am on Tuesday, January 16th. The schedule is listed at the bottom of this newsletter again.
Our Academic Team competed in the Govenor’s Cup this weekend. The Future Problem Solvers and Quick Recall teams placed second and advanced to regionals. The team won the Catherine Hume Sportsmanship Award as well! Congratulations to the Dance team on their first-place performance in both hip-hop and small pom this past weekend at the KDCO regional. And if you missed the social media posts, congratulations to our Cheerleading team who will be competing at the National competition in Florida from February 9-13.
Since our return to school this semester, we have been emphasizing to our students the important life skill of being prepared. This focus looks like being in class when the bell rings and being prepared for class every day with their laptops and chargers. The administrative team has been dropping into classrooms to remind students of this important skill several times a week. If you have received a notice about your child missing a charger, these are available at school for $15.00.
This semester is off to a great start and it is because of your great students. Thank you for all that you are doing to support their academic and social success at BMS!
