FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Owensboro, KY- Daviess County Public Schools (DCPS) is excited to announce the receipt of a generous grant from Cargill to establish food pantries at each school location, providing vital support to families in need. This funding will be managed through the Family Youth Resource Service Centers (FRYSC) at each school, ensuring students and families have reliable access to nutritious food.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have community partners like Cargill who are committed to making a meaningful impact on our students and families in the Owensboro-Daviess County area,” said Dr. Caleb York, Assistant Superintendent of Human Services. “We deeply appreciate Cargill’s generosity. This grant will significantly enhance our efforts to support students and families experiencing food insecurity. By collaborating with Cargill, we can further strengthen the resources offered by our Family Youth Resource Service Centers and continue our commitment to ensuring every student has the essentials they need to succeed.”
The school-based food pantries will provide a range of non-perishable food items and essential supplies, readily available to students and families. The initiative aims to remove barriers to learning by addressing basic needs, fostering a supportive environment where students can thrive.
The FRYSCs will collaborate with school staff, community organizations, and volunteers to oversee the pantries, ensuring that the needs of students and families are met with efficiency and dignity. This initiative aligns with DCPS’s mission to support the whole child by addressing both academic and well-being needs.
