New Super Assistant Super

Matt Mason has been named the new Assistant Superintendent of Student Services for Daviess County Public Schools. This comes after Charley Broughton was recently named the new incoming Superintendent.

Mason will assume the role's responsibilities, including serving on the Superintendent’s Senior Leadership Team and leading the Student Services Leadership Team. He will also coordinate the district’s compliance with school enrollment and attendance laws and serve as custodian of all student data and records. He will coordinate and manage the electronic Student Information System. Mason will work with principals, teachers and parents/guardians in response to attendance or social/behavioral concerns. This work includes identifying potential truancy and dropout issues and implementing steps and programs to prevent and mitigate those issues. Mason will also provide direction and oversight of the DCPS Physical and Mental Health Programs. He will also serve as the District Safety Coordinator, overseeing and working collaboratively with the Daviess County Public Schools Police Department. Mason will serve as the District Athletic Director ensuring schools and coaches are compliant with the KHSAA. Mason will also further provide direction and oversight of the DCPS Transportation Department.

Mason currently serves as the Daviess County High School principal, a role he has been in since 2011. Before his principalship, he served as a DCHS assistant principal from 2009-2011 and athletic director the previous year. He began his career in DCPS as DCHS Social Studies teacher in 2002 and coached baseball and softball for DCHS.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in History from Southern Illinois University in 2000. Along with a Masters in Education with a focus in Administration in 2007, Rank 1 Certification with an emphasis on Director of Pupil Personnel in 2011, and Superintendent Certification in 2018 all from Western Kentucky University.

Incoming Superintendent Charley Broughton said there were other strong candidates for this position, but Mason’s background and experience were an outstanding fit for this role. “Mr. Mason has demonstrated high levels of success and strong leadership throughout his professional career and will bring that same commitment to excellence to this important district role,” Broughton said.
